Webmaster/ Historian: Tunnel of Trees Thoughts
The Tunnel of Trees is always a great ride. Our guide was Cory Liddy. We started at Brighton Harley-Davidson on a bright sunny cool morning. We had about 25 bikes which we broke into 2 groups, one led by Cory and the other one by me. For the first part of the ride it was all free- way to Gaylord. The Ponderosa there was our lunch stop and we picked up 2 more chapter members that live in the area, Ken Garrot and Clive Frances. After lunch we made our way from U.S. 131 to Petoskey, through Harbor Springs for a quick gas stop then onto D-119. Un- fortunately there was not much color but the ride was still very enjoyable.
We stopped at the General Store in Good Hart for those that needed a pin, patch or purchase of some of the deli- cious homemade baked goods. We continued to Cross Village; then we followed the coast line. I have never been that way. We stopped at Presque Isle Light House. After a short stop there we made our way to our Hotel in Mackinaw for the night. After we all checked in we had dinner at a Mom and Pop Restaurant across the street from the Hotel. As always with this group there were some shenanigans that happened at night. The next day we rode U.S. 23 (Sun Rise Coast). After several stops and lunch we continued our ride until we merged back on the free- way in Bay City area. We continued on the freeway until we merged back onto U.S. 23 near Fenton, and from there the group lost members as they made their way to their homes. We all arrived safely to our homes after a great weekend ride with great friends and great weather.
